Top 8 Family Animes

I have watched the finale of Full Metal Alchemist the other day. I burst into tears when the great anime was ended. I am deeply moved by the anime plot. The destiny of the characters makes me full of grave worry. I just hope all the guys in the anime can have brilliant future. Luckily, it is a happy ending which makes me happy.
But, sometimes I am probing why Full Metal Alchemist is so wonderful. Is that because there are beautiful pictures, good movements or stylish characters? No, absolutely no. After a long time' thinking, I got the key to the success of the anime. First, I have to say that it is just my opinion, just mine. I am just a big fan of Full Metal Chemist. In fact, I am an enthusiast of anime, manga.
What is the key to the success of Full Metal Alchemist? It is family's emotional energy. This strong family emotional energy makes me deeply touched. This is the important factor why Full Metal Chemist has made such a great success.
Now, except Full Metal Alchemist, there are also many family animes which the most important factor in animes are family emotional energy. They are all great pieces with lots of followers. Today, I make a Top 8 family animes list for you. No matter how bad and how outdated the list is, you could just take a look. It took me almost one day to compile the information in manga magazine and check out the final list. Just enjoy it.
1. Full Metal Alchemist
If you watched the whole story and spend some time thinking about the plot, you may be surprised to figure out the answer. All the fighters in the anime are from the same big family. Edward Elric, his sisters, his brothers, his uncles. Whoever in the anime are almost one member of the extended family.
2. Code Geass
It is a 100 percent family anime. This is a story of an adolescent boy fighting against his own father. Everything in Code Geass is family background.
3. Naruto
Naruto is considered as a great work by the little children. And we can define it as a blood anime or a science anime because it covers so many contents. But now, we can say it is absolutely a family anime. You know Uzumaki Naruto and Sasuke are designed to be a pair when they are born.
4. Saint Seiya
What should I say? Athena is the queen of the Saints' family. All the stuff of the family are willing to sacrifice for their queen.
5. Inuyasha
Inuyasha is not only a family anime but also a love tragedy happening in the family. What a confused story in the anime world.
6. Hitman Reborn
As the name saying, It is a cool story happening in the traditional gangster family. It sounds like horrible. Lol.
7. Detective Conan
I guess that no one is willing to meet the Conan' family in reality. Because everyone met by the Conan is a tragedy. He is the killer or dead.
8. School Days

Anime Ponyo

Cover of "Ponyo (Two-Disc Edition)"Cover of Ponyo (Two-Disc Edition)
When you hear the name Hayao Miyasaki can immediately remember the movies: Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Monoke and Spirited Away. An author and he's team of these popular films, have lots of fans around the world. Besides fans age are very varied - from child to adult. Miyasaki could be called anime pioneer in America. Tip for those who have not seen any movie yet of this author, watch as soon as it possible, and who knows, maybe even if you don't like the anime style movies, you will start like them or even become one of the biggest fan.
One of the most recent Miyasaki works are Ponyo. You may think that there are some similarities between the Ponyo and the Walt Disney movie The Little Mermaid. Ponyo as and Ariel wanted to experience something more than the ocean life. Ponyo wanted to live people's lives but her father was against it and tried to stop her.
Making use of father's magics Ponyo transforms into a human and became a friends with a boy whose name is Sosuke. When Ponyo and Sosuke meet she still was in fish form. But later she could spend time with Sosuke as a human. As Sosuke lived very close to the sea one day, after a heavy storm, his mother has disappeared and they both began looking for her. This storm has been a huge shift to Ponyo, Sesuke and all world.
At the first look, perhaps it seems that the situation is very tragic, but it is not. Miyazaki film touches such important topics as environmental pollution - ocean full of garbage. By the way at the beginning of the film in one of those garbage Ponyo almost died, Sosuke saved her. Ponyo's father could appear more harsh and angry, but that's because he love's Ponyo. He wanted to protect her. And there's nothing new, this happening in our everyday life, all parents worry about their children when they leave home, first day at school, or see them off to the marital life.
The film is involving and enchanting from the very beginning. It's full of large and small marine organisms, big and small fishes. The film also hints at the old people, in old people's shelter working Sosuke's mom. Sosuke's father is a sailor he also survived a major storm.
Ponyo film is for various age for both, children and adults, and seeing this film will not be bored and will leave you a pleasant impression.

Naruto Shippuden Episode 173

Japanese writingImage via Wikipedia
Naruto Shippuden Episode 173: Origin of Pain, picks up right where episode 172 left off - After Yahiko, Nagato, & Konan find the 3 sannin and begin training with Jiraiya.
Survival is pretty tough during these times. Food is scarce and everyone seems ***affected*** by the war. If being an orphan of war isn't bad enough, try surviving when your home is still the battleground for war. This is when Yahiko was attacked by a ninja; as a result, Nagato's ocular ability, the rinnegan was activated. Nagato blanked out and killed the ninja. Nagato reveals that the hate caused him to go beserk and was eventually consumed with guilt. Killing people without breaking a sweat - where's the guilt in that?
Initially, Jiraiya was rather hesitant about spending time with these kids. Orochimaru wanted to kill Nagato, Konan, and Yahiko because as he's seen plenty of war oprhans and he felt they should be put out of their misery. Jiraiya, feeling responsible, told Tsunade and Orochimaru to continue without him as he would stay with the three young ninja and train them so that they could defend themselves.
Nagato shared with Jaraiya that he feels guilt, and feels wrong for what he did. Jiraiya says that he doesn't know if Nagato's actions were right or wrong, but he does tell Nagato that because of his choice, Yahiko didn't die and that's what matters. Nagato expresses that he will protect Yahiko and Konan no matter what kind of pain he has to endure.
After Jiraiya felt he trained them enough so that they could survive without him, he had a talk with Nagato about his rinnegan. Jiraiya told Nagato about the history of the Six Paths. He says that the Sage of the Six Paths was called the Savior. He tells him that the Sage of the Six Paths believed that the era would come when people truly understand each other and expresses that Nagato maybe a reincarnation of him, since he was the only other person who possessed the Rinnegan.
We fast forward to an older Nagato who has now established a notable organization that would build peace without the use of force.
When Hanzo found out about the organization, he arranged a meeting to use their power to secure an agreement of peace among the 3 great nations. They agreed to cooperate with his proposal. However, the next day they they met at a location to discover that Hanzo's subordinates and the Leaf's Anbu Black Ops were already there. Hanzo had Konan taken hostage and revealed that this was all a plan to end their organization. Hanzo revealed that their organization was a nuisance to him and allied with Danzo, who also had personal gain, to make sure their organization was ended. Hanzo told Yahiko and Nagato that Yahiko must die because he is the leader, or that Konan will die if he resists. If he couldn't be more cruel, Hanzo says that Nagato must be the one to kill Yahiko.
Yahiko, with no hesitation, offers his life to save his two friends. Nagato slowly picks up the kunai thrown to him by Hanzo and before Nagato can make a move, Yahiko runs into the kunai of which Nagato is holding, taking his own life. His last words were, "You and Konan must survive... no matter what it takes. You are the savior of this world. I know you can do it." Even after Yahiko's death, Hanzo orders his men to kill Nagato and Konan. Nagato uses his ocular abilities to protect himself and Konan. Nagato then charges for Hanzo who tries to attack using his Fire Style Jutsu. Seeming un **affected** by Hanzo's attack, Nagato summons the Gedo Statue and it rips the souls out of the ninjas.
Nagato continues to take out Hanzo's men, as well as the Anbu Black ops as they run for their lives. Before Hanzo retreats, he acknowledges Nagato as the user of the Rinnegan.
Well, that about wraps things up for Naruto Shippuden Episode 173. Now, what I want to know is where the hell is Danzo in all of this? It would have been nice to see more of him. Don't tell me he got scared and ran off.

Cover of "Ninja Scroll [UMD for PSP]"Cover of Ninja Scroll [UMD for PSP]
Naming the top 5 anime movies of all time is most likely difficult for any true fan. Narrowing down any genre is a long process. Here are a couple of anime movies loved by many.
Ghost in the Shell is set in Japan in the year 2029. An elite team by the name of Section 9 fights crimes and terrorists acts caused by the outstanding technology of the future. However, when a computer virus with the ability to alter human memories is made, the team chases a case that changes them forever.

Top 3 Anime Titles in English Dubbed

There is much discussion among anime fans whether or not anime that is dubbed over with English voices is a valid media. Elitist anime fans will say that the only way to view them is with the original Japanese voices with English subtitles. They may complain that the voices in English are stupid, or whiny and difficult to listen to. However, the are several series that have an excellent dub and are an done very well. For those who may not know, anime is a form of animation that originates from Japan. After the show is released in Japan, the show is sent over to the United States of America where American fans can enjoy them. There are five series that have come over from Japan that stand out from the rest, where the quality of dubbing is superb and the voices fit the characters excellently.
1) Bleach
The show bleach originally was a comic that was first released in 2001. Bleach first aired on September 2006 to the delight of American fans. The voice of the protagonist Ichi is voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch, who has done great work in several other shows such as Hellbinders, Last Exile, and Akira. The supporting cast is also very good with Michelle Ruff doing Rukia. This show is definitely as good in English and Japanese subtitles.
2) Air Gear
Air Gear is one of the funniest shows ever created. The main character Ikki is done by Chris Patton who does a great job of keeping the humor translated over from the original version.
3) Full Metal Alchemist

Death Note Review

Light YagamiImage via Wikipedia
Death Note is a Japanese animation series (or anime for short)  written by Tsugumi Ohba. The main themes in this series are 'psychological' and 'supernatural'. Recommended age rating is teenagers and up.
Plot Overview: The story starts with a teenage boy named Light Yagami, sitting in school and obviously bored when he notices a note book outside his class and falling from above. He later picks up the note book out of curiosity and sees the words "Death Note" written on the cover with an odd set of directions inside on how to use this note book to kill with simply a name an face. He takes it as a joke but decides to keep it and give it a try just for the hell of it. To lights amazement the Death Note is real and Yagami Light suddenly has the power to kill anyone he desires with only their name and face.
Light is then visited by the owner of the Death Note, A Shinigami named Ryuk. Ryuk decides to fallow Light around because he's bored of his own world and decides it might be fun if a human possessed the powers of the Death Note. Ryuk fallows Light on his quest to cleanse the world of all evil but never interfearing.
Light decides to use this power for justice, a no tolerance judgment for all criminals and becomes the the persona "Kira". The governments start taking notice of the odd chain of death with all inmates and hire the famous detective "L" to track down the killer. It soon becomes a battle of wits, traps, ploys and deceptions as both Kira and L seek to learn the others identity. Kira and L are both wrapped in cloaks of mystery while Kira can't kill without a name and L can't arrest without a name.
Personal Opinion: Death Note is really a jewel of an Anime series but the ones who don't like it usually tend to hate. The story is well thought out for the most part. although there are a few episodes when you can't help but feel its going no where fast. The artwork is also above average but the soundtrack isn't anything special. Although it does have a very nice opening videos and music. Speaking of audio, do yourself a favor and watch the original Japanese version with subtitles if it doesn't bother you because the English Dubs on this series is awful. The characters are  rich and believable with their original voices while the English Dub voice actors didn't quit fit and the emotion they acted out didn't seem as believable as the original Japanese voice actors.
All in all, if you're looking for an Anime with a strong story, unexpected twists and and thrills then check out Death Note.
I give death note a 9/10
Related Information: There has been 2 live action movies based on the Death Note series and are in Japanese audio only.
There is also a book, a novel written about cases L worked on before the Kira case that took place in the story in the anime and manga series. The novels title is 'Death Note: Another Note - The Los Angeles BB Murder Cases'.
There is also a ton of merchandise available on this Anime, from Anime shirts and posters to actual Death Note note books. (Sorry they can't actually kill with a name but they can give a mean paper-cut.)

Basilisk Anime Series

Iga Ninja (left to right, top to bottom) Nenki...Image via Wikipedia
The story is about a man called Gennosuke and a woman called Oboro who deeply love each other but fate pulled them apart. They belong in two different Ninja clans, the Iga and the Kouga who are sworn enemies. The Basilisk anime series, beautifully unveils their story and along the way it shows you the tremendous fights of these two Ninja clans.
At the beginning of the story the two clans were in a state of truce and hoped that maybe one day they could live together peacefully. This ended when Ieyasu, who was the shogun at that time, gave to the Iga and the Kouga a reason to fight till death. In order to decide who of his two sons will be the next shogun he told the Iga and the Kouga to make two teams of their best 10 Ninjas, each team representing one of his sons. The son who was represented by the team who managed to survive at the end would be the next shogun. Gennosuke and Oboro will then find them self's opponents in a battle which is not about love but about survivor! Who will be the one to survive at the end and what will happen with Gennosuke's and Oboro's love? Is their love enough to stop this madness?
Basilisk not only contains some amazing battles between the Ninjas of the two clans but also strong emotion and a surprising story line. The difference in basilisk is that the fights between the two clans are like a game of chess. 10 pawns each with a different ability that might be useful against one and not useful at all against another. Almost in every episode you get one of the characters to die and you hope that is not your favourite one. Although Basilisk is 24 episodes you will find your self attached with a number of characters.
Basilisk as an anime production is one of the best we have seen. The graphics are so good (as good as Bleach in my humble opinion) and the characters are so beautiful that it was very hard for us to decide which screen captures we would leave behind for every episode summary in our website www.basiliskanime.com [http://www.basiliskanime.com]. We also could not find any major mistakes and no plot holes. The soundtrack is surprisingly good with a great opening song. Voice acting could be better in English but is superb in Japanese. No surprise why you cannot find a review of basilisk that gives basilisk below 8!
You can visit our site Basilisk Anime [http://www.basiliskanime.com] site and read about the summaries of all the episodes and descriptions for the characters. We did this website out of respect for this great release! Definitely one of the top 5 anime out there in terms of storyline, graphics and soundtrack.

Like others Avatars who lived in the world before him, Aang also could learn how to manage all four elements. The Avatar was respectful and loving for every life monk, and more importantly, he was a 12 years old boy. It was very difficult to decide for him how to do it. Naruto Spoilers

Naruto Spoilers, you really do either love them or hate them and its the same with any other manga.
The worst thing ever is coming across a spoiler by accident, the day before you read the latest chapter. Actually, the worst thing ever might be for an anime watcher turned manga reader coming across a spoiler when you have only just started reading the manga, and the spoiler happens 400 chapters later! Been there.
On the other hand, it could be the best thing ever, if you're the type of person that cannot wait for the real thing to come out.
Manga spoilers these days are not readily available from a large number of sources. There may only actually be a handful of J-Citizens out there that inform the Western manga community of the ongoings, as the manga is released in stores weekly in Japan of course. When the actual thing is released, the chapter then gets thrown into the otaku production like, scanned by a faithful Japanese citizen and then uploaded to be translated into English by their Western colleagues. During this period, the 'professional' groups have different members assigned to different roles i.e. a scanner, a mopper and translator (or two). Collectively, this is known as a scanliation group, smart eh? The mopper by the way, edits the manga graphically so it appears whiter and cleaner than the original scan did.
Like it or love it, it is yet another fine example how things in this world are evolving with the Internet!

Tenjo Tenge Manga

Demon Exorcist Souichiro.Image via Wikipedia
Tenjo Tenge is a Japanese Anime and Manga series written by Ogure Ito, also referred to as "Oh Great!", "The Creator" or "Air Gear".
Tenjo Tenge in the story of Souichiro Nagi and Bob Makihara as they enroll in the Todo Academy, a martial arts school where Mitsoumi Takayanagi is the president, with the aim of taking it over. When they realize that the school houses some powerful fighters and cannot be taken over, they join the Juukenbu club, captained by Maya Natsume.
The Tenjou Tenge series focuses on the battle between the Juukenbo club and Mitsoumi Takayanagi, who had murdered Maya Natsume's older brother, Shin Natsume, three years previously.
The Story of Shin Natsume
The story of Shin Natsume, Maya's brother, is told as a flashback over 6 episodes as Maya attempts to explain the history to the newcomers. This is to ensure that viewers and readers have a back story to reference to, as both the Anime and Manga frequently refer to the past.
The anime series continues until just before the "Imperial Arts Tournament", which is hosted by the Todo Academy and where also decide who will be the "President" of the school. The manga series however, continues on well after this.
The manga series show how Mitsoumi recognizes the threat of Souichiro Nagi's power, the ability to take over someone's power during battle, and he then sends fighters against Souichiri. It is only during one of these fights that Souichiro discovers he actually has this special power but that he cannot control it. Souichiro ends up in hospital after the fight with temporary loss of control of his left leg.
The Natsume Sisters
Aya, Maya's sister, falls in love with Souichiro during the first episode, and uses her power, the ability to see into the past or future or see things hundreds of miles away, by spying on him. In the 5th episode, her power is shown for the first time, and it is reavealed that she is probably the strongest fighter of them all, though the only reason she fights is because she wants to become stronger for Souichiro.
The Story in Short
In Tenjo Tenge the main characters such as Maya and Souichiro, have "special" powers, which generally differ from fighter to fighter. It is discovered later in the series, however, that Souichiro has the ability to "take" someone's power after fighting them, and he actually is supposed to become a "demon" in order to defeat them.
After the Imperial Arts tournament, the Manga also follows Souhaku, Souichiro's father, who had discovered a way to live forever, and has been alive since the feudal ages. Souichiro is kidnapped by Souhaka, and forced to fight ever stronger warriors in order to become a monster.
Tenjo Tenge, also known as Tenjou Tenge or Tenjou Tenghe, is a truly fascinating and entertaining series that plays off in modern day Japan.
Japanese Anime and Manga is also one of the fastest growing entertainment forms in the World and is available both in print and online.

Why is Anime Addicting

Face of Wikipe-tanImage via Wikipedia
Does it surprise you that there are so many people who make animation the center of their lives? Just as cigarettes and alcohol can be addicting, anime can be addicting too. People who are addicted to anime, however, are termed as otaku, or animation addicts to be exact. There are people who do nothing all day but watch & think about anime, theorize & collects anime products, squeal about anime, and dream about it as well Well, that's not really the truth and they still do a lot of stuff that are not related to anime, but I think you get the point. They are totally and undeniably addicted to anime and who can blame them? Anime is just about one of the most addicting things in the world. But what makes it so addicting?
As a self-confessed animation addict, I'll have to say that there are several reasons why anime is so addicting for many people.
Characters
The first, and probably the most compelling reason of all, is the sheer beauty by which the makers create their characters. Out of all cartoons in the world, it is only in Japanese anime that I have seen such well rounded and realistic characters that are so distinctly human. Anime does not delude the viewers into thinking that someone can be perfect. The heroes and heroines in anime, beautiful as they may be, have their own flaws and insecurities. They're not like the princesses in the cartoon fairy tales who are epitomes of grace and goodness, and are thereby incredibly flat and drab. Anime heroes and heroines are human, and their humanity makes them all the more interesting.
Also, because they each have their own personalities, we're sure to find at least one character in every show with whom we can relate with and empathize with. And this is one of the biggest reasons why we get hooked in anime versus American cartoons because we're always trying to find out what's going to happen with our favorite characters.
Plots
The plots in anime are just as much reason to get addicted as the characters themselves. Anime Series are almost always gifted with great plots. The plots are seldom ever watered down to suit the audience, thus never undermining the intelligence of the viewers as some of the other cartoon series do. They anime makers can dish out the most elaborate plots and never worry whether anyone will understand whether they will be understood or not - after all, anime is not simply a franchise, it's a form of art, and if people don't understand it today. Then maybe the people of tomorrow will.
Anime plots are always suffused with a sufficient amount of suspense, drama, intrigue, politics, and enough twists and turns to leave your jaw hanging. And not only that, they're usually deep and always have a lesson attached to them.
Animation
Okay, let's not deny it. Part of the reason why we watch anime is because it simply looks amazing. Although they are in 2D format, sometimes they are drawn even better then the ones that are created in 3D. Those overly large eyes, those gravity defying hairstyles, those weirder than weird clothes; they're simply perfect and enough to make anyone keep coming back for more. The artistic amazement is just none stop however you look at it.  Watch Anime online at Voosee TV

Monster - One Of The Best Manga Anime Trillers

Monster (manga)Image via Wikipedia
Monster (Monsuta) is a seinen manga written and illustrated by Naoki Urasawa, published by Shogakukan in Big Comic Original between 1994 and 2001, and reprinted in 18 tankobon volumes. It was adapted by Madhouse as a 74-episode anime TV series, which aired on NTV from April 7, 2004 to September 28, 2005. It was directed by Masayuki Kojima, written by Tatsuhiko Urahata and featured character designs by Kitaro Kosaka. The manga and anime have both been licensed by Viz Media for an English release. Urasawa later wrote and illustrated the novel Another Monster, a supplement story detailing the events from the manga as from an investigative reporter's point of view, published by Shogakukan in 2002.

Plot

The series follows Dr. Kenzo Tenma (Tenma Kenzo) as he pursues a young psychopath/sociopath named Johan, whose life Tenma once saved. The story rapidly progresses through a number of locations: it starts in Düsseldorf, Germany, passes through Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich, Wiesbaden, cities in the Czech Republic such as Prague, and other cities and villages.

Both the anime and the manga begin with a passage from The Revelation of St. John the Divine, Chapter 13: Verses 1 & 4

And I saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads, the names of blasphemy. And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, "Who is like unto the beast? Who is able to make war with him?"

The quote is often interpreted as the coming of the Antichrist. This quote is used because of the many parallels and comparisons between one of the main characters of Monster (Johan) and two candidates of the Antichrist as predicted by Nostradamus.

Dr. Kenzo Tenma is a young Japanese doctor working at the Eisler Memorial Hospital in Düsseldorf during the 80s. A highly accomplished brain surgeon, he appears to have everything on his plate: a promotion in the offing; the favor of the director of the hospital Heinemann; and Heinemann's daughter Eva as his fiancée. However, Tenma grows increasingly dissatisfied with the political bias of the hospital for treating patients, and seizes his chance to change things after a strange massacre brings the twins Johan and Anna Liebert into his hospital. Johan has a gunshot wound to the head and Anna keeps muttering about killing, and Tenma decides to operate on Johan instead of the mayor of Düsseldorf who arrived afterwards. Johan is saved, but Mayor Roedecker dies. Tenma loses all his social standing and Eva as a consequence. However, Director Heinemann and the other doctors in Tenma's way are mysteriously murdered, and both children disappear from the hospital soon after. The police suspect Tenma, as he benefits greatly from this turn of events, but they have no evidence, and so can do no more than question him.

At this point, the story advances to nine years later. Tenma is now the Chief of Surgery at Eisler Memorial Hospital. However, he is about to come face to face with a sociopath - a sociopath that he helped save.

A known criminal named Adolf Junkers is found on the street, hit by a car. He comes under the care of Dr. Tenma, who observes him muttering about a "monster". Tenma extends kindness to Junkers, and thus Junkers begins to open up for Tenma. Then one evening when Dr. Tenma comes back with a clock as a gift for Junkers, he finds the guard in front of Junkers's room dead, and Junkers himself gone.

Following the trail to the construction site of a half finished building near the hospital, Tenma finds Junkers being held at gunpoint. The man, who has developed a sort of doctor-patient friendship with Dr. Tenma, warns him against coming closer, and pleads with him to run away. Tenma refuses, however, and the man holding the gun pointed at Junkers is revealed to be the boy whose life Tenma had saved nine years ago - Johan Liebert. Despite Dr. Tenma's attempt to reason with him, Johan shoots the criminal, tells Tenma that he could never kill the man who had saved his life, and then walks off into the night while Tenma is still too shocked to stop him.

After this incident, Tenma is again suspected by the police, particularly Inspector Runge, and he tries to find more information about this 'Johan'. He soon discovers that the boy's sister, now named Nina, happily living the life of an adopted daughter to two caring parents, and the only trace of her terrible past are few dreams she has had. Tenma discovers her on her birthday, and manages to prevent her from meeting her brother, but comes too late to prevent Johan from murdering her foster parents. As the story progresses, Tenma learns of the origins of this monster, from the former East Germany's attempt to use a secret orphanage called 511 Kinderheim (where Johan came from) in order to create the "perfect soldiers" through "psychological reprogramming", to the author of a children's book which was used in a eugenics experiment in Czech Republic. He also learns about the scope of the atrocities this "Monster" has committed, and he vows to fix the mistake he made when he saved Johan's life.

While Tenma is the main character of Monster, the story also focuses heavily on those surrounding his search for Johan, such as Inspector Runge (who is investigating Johan's various murders but pins them all on Tenma), Eva Heinemann (Tenma's former fiancé), Nina Fortner (aka Anna Liebert, Johan's twin sister), Dieter (A Orphan Tenma saved), and a host of other characters, minor and major, whose lives have been shaped by the deeds of the monster named 'Johan'.

Dragonball Z

Dragon Ball: Music CollectionImage via Wikipedia
The last few years i have been watching a lot of Hayoa Miyazaki movies like Porco Rosso, Kiki's Delivery Service and My Neighbour Totoro and they are great and remain some of my favourite anime. I just wanted to wright this review on Dragonball Z because after watching just over 100 episodes (from the start) i am totally blown away by how epic and powerful the whole thing is. I needed this kind of thing after watching the gently paced and mega friendly movies above. Dragonball Z has so much going for it. The characters are brilliant and numerous and they are all used perfectly. The villains are super evil, check out frieza in his final form, and the story is unbelievably epic (especially if you have watched all of dragonball, which i recently have). The most noticable element of Dragonball Z, though, are the battles. Now i'm watching the original jap version and i've never seen anything like it, in a good way. I love the way the big battles last 30 episodes and the OTT fighting is genius. I don't know why people slag them of. This is animation! Actors can't do this sort of stuff so why not take advantage. It's so exhilararating. Like in the saiyan saga when Vegeta (a terrific character) is hit by the Ki bomb and sent flying into into oblivion, only to fall back down to earth, completely battered and angered, then launching a massive energy blast in all directions, utterly destroying the surrounding area. Thats just one of my favourite moments so far. Since ive only seen a third of Dragonball Z, im not going to give this a strict rating. Anime fans who have'nt seen it should definetly do so, and people who have'nt seen the jap version should watch it. I've seen a few of the dubbed and cut versions on sky and they don't capture the same intensity of the original. The ending theme of the original is really good, too. Mind you, who am i to talk, i've only just started watching it and i can't wait to continue. Long live Dragonball......

How to Create Anime Hands and Characters

Anime Explosion! The What? Why? & Wow! Of Japa...Image via Wikipedia
The hands of an anime character won't seem essential; however, you and your pals will discover if you aren't getting them right. Anime characters use their arms to communicate expressively and fight viciously. Studying how to draw anime hands can be troublesome, even when the remainder of your Japanese cartoon hero is drawn perfectly. The arms particularly require special attention. Computer animation tools or even fundamental Home windows Paint program can simplify the process whereas creating limitless possibilities.
The first step in creating an anime hand is to attract the palm and basic construction of the fingers. To begin, draw an upside-down bell. On the flat high of the determine make four extending traces for the fingers. Afterwards, make a line on the left or proper side of the determine to symbolize the thumb. Since the fingers look a bit foolish as thin sticks, you should literally flesh them out. First, draw three circles on each finger and thumb. You must draw one on the top, one within the center and one at the base of every finger, and likewise the thumb. These circles will assist you in absolutely drawing out the shape and texture of the fingers. After the circles are made, draw a top level, view round them to make full fingers. After doing so, experiment with making a line throughout the fingers that can serve as a knuckle.
As fingers of anime characters cannot just float in house, it's essential to connect them to an arm and wrist. At the point the place the bell-shaped palm ended, draw a straight line downwards. After you have got drawn a passable line, make one line on each side. It will outline the form of the character's arm. After you've gotten drawn an anime character's hand primarily based on the circle and line guides you drew, delete the unique circles and inside line of the arm. Once the strains and circles are eliminated, you will have a completely realized anime character's hand that you may resize, incorporate with the rest of your character and maybe use in sequences of graphic animation.
With simple portray packages you can draw a digital version of your anime character. If you are creating a personality on a finances use the identical Windows Paint program. With a fundamental paint program you may draw your anime character freely and easily. Many budding anime artists choose to engage in laptop animation after they have completed some freehand drawing, as this may permit them to think about the character from all angles, develop the concepts they like and erase those they don't. A computerized anime character can be manipulated and enhanced in applications like Photoshop or GIMP- you would have to purchase Photoshop, however GIMP is out there without spending a dime, even though it may be difficult to use. Examine on the web for a listing of some freeware programs geared towards supporting anime drawings.
One of many easiest ways to create your own anime character is to draw it freehand. Don't be concerned should you feel you lack creative skills, as a basic sketch will enable you actualize the character in your mind. Earlier than committing pen to paper, take into consideration the look, personality and potential position of your anime character. Do you want a tall character? One who seems to be offended? How massive would possibly you need their weapons to be? Consider it or not, drawing an anime character by freehand is among the first steps in graphic animation, so you can at all times flip to a computer to improve your sketch.

Cowboy Bebop Review

Cowboy BebopImage via Wikipedia
Cowboy Bebop is one of those series that takes a relatively tired concept and manages to breathe new life into it. In this case, the formula is a small band of bounty hunters, tooling around in their quirky space ship, headed up by a slick gunslinger with a mysterious past--I think just about every anime fan has seen at least something like that. But through some stylish directing, not-quite-formula characters, an interesting setting, a mix of offbeat humor and drama, and a whole lot of very cool music, Cowboy Bebop manages to be both good classic space-adventure and refreshingly original.
To start with, though there is a bit of ongoing plot, most of the episodes are essentially self-contained stories tied together loosely by the motley crew of characters. But the mood(s) of the series are one of the things that set it apart; there is a roughly even mix of dark, serious episodes full of grim situations and stylish set-pieces, and of generally light (though never to the point of being truly silly) ones, with a relatively subtle, quirky sense of humor. The two moods were almost never mixed within an episode, and interestingly enough, I thought that blend worked very well; the fun episodes were very much so, but never so silly that you couldn't take the other half of the stories seriously, and the serious half were executed well enough to easily stand with the best of that genre. And, by clearly segregating the two types of stories, the series avoided almost all of the emotional tug-of-war that you (or at least I) get with some series that try to be both funny and dramatic at the same time. This is one of the only truly multi-genre series I can think of, and the mix of stories has something to satisfy almost anybody.
Actually, the range of this series is even more impressive than just dark and light: although most of the humor in the series is of the low-key, offhanded, quirky sort, there were even a couple of parody-heavy episodes that were straight comedy. Those not only didn't seem out of place, but were downright hilarious--in one case (Mushroom Samba) a semi-parody of exactly the sort of too-cool hero the series is about (it even has several Shaft references), and Toys in the Attic, a direct parody of the original Alien movie. The latter is pretty darned funny in and of itself, but it builds to a 2001-inspired crescendo of music and visuals that has to be one of the most oddly appealing pieces of filmmaking I can think of. I'll freely admit that I have a weird sense of humor, but I thought it was sheer brilliance.
Well, that's the broad picture, but this series has so many other things worth mentioning that it's hard to know where to start, so I'll go with the one thing that the series is pretty much built on: style. Cowboy Bebop has style all over the place--from the visuals, to the music (I'll be getting to that later), to the settings, to the stories, this series was as slick as you could ask for in even the most serious of sci-fi. And actually, that is the only significant problem I personally had with the series--there was style to spare, but substance was sacrificed to make room for it. All the plots (the serious ones in particular) may have been cool and slick, but they were also entirely predictable. There were a few ongoing questions surrounding Spike's past, and about three minor points at which you weren't quite sure how something would turn out, but for the most part the dramatic stories were about as formula and obvious as they come.
Now, don't get me wrong--I'm not saying the stories weren't good. Quite the contrary, they were usually quite interesting, exciting, and the classic plot lines (particularly the dark, moody ones) were executed so well that they were a pleasure to watch anyway, but don't come expecting anything unpredictable or many original stories. If you just can't stand obvious plots or the occasional sacrificing of realism (or even making much sense) for the sake of style, you might get annoyed once in a while, as I was, but on the other hand, those who prefer style over substance should be drooling over what Cowboy Bebop has to offer.
That said, Cowboy Bebop easily made up for the lack of story originality elsewhere. For one thing, there was the world (or rather worlds--the characters are always hopping around the solar system) it is set in. Each had a very distinct feel to it, and none of them were generic sci-fi--the whole series had an international feel to it, with each location having the flavor of some particular period or nationality. Building on that was the fact that the locales weren't one shot deals--the characters did return to familiar areas once in a while.
Adding to the variety of the settings is the detail that went into them and almost everything else. It isn't as good as a few series I've seen, but the towns and cities of Cowboy Bebop have a level of crowded detail and a sense of being lived in (and of being functional enough to live in) that isn't too common, particularly in sci-fi. Beyond that, there were a collection of little touches surrounding the main characters that gave the series a sense of realism that it could have easily been lacking. For one thing, they do stuff like cook food and eat, look up information on a variant of the Internet, and lay around on a beat-up couch... in their spaceship.
That brings up what was probably the best part about the setting of the series: it was sci-fi, but it didn't feel futuristic. There were spaceships and warp gates, sure, but that sort of thing wasn't prevalent at all, and almost all the technology had a down-to-earth, almost retro feel--the spaceships run out of gas, the computer links crash, the TV gets poor reception on backwater planets, and there is a grand total of one laser gun in the series--Spike's fighter has one that is used very infrequently, and everything else just shoots regular bullets (I thought the shell casings in space concept was really cool, as a matter of fact). Heck, there were even space truckers. In a few cases, it was so low tech that the realism was perhaps questionable (in fact, they actually made an effort to patch a few tech holes in the dubbed dialogue), but in all it gave me the feeling that these were normal people living in a slightly different place and time, and made it very easy to get a grasp on the setting (it also contributed a bit to the wild west feel, though that theme was usually surprisingly subtle considering the title).
Moving on, no discussion of a good anime series would be complete without bringing up the characters, and Cowboy Bebop had plenty of good ones. None of the characters are terribly original--we have the grumpy old bounty hunter with a mysterious past, the slick young bounty hunter with an even more mysterious past that keeps coming back to haunt him, a self-serving gambler on the run with a mysterious past, and a slightly mentally unstable hacker punk (with--big surprise--a mysterious past). Oh, and there's a genetically modified Welsh Corgi (with a mysterious past), too, but it never does anything as impressive as you'd expect--it has unusually high intelligence, but only by dog standards. The characters each have a good chunk of personality on their own, and they all develop a sort of semi-antagonistic dynamic that, by being neither too over the top nor too vicious, is not only fun, but gives the series its foundation. Their relationships also provided plenty of banter, which I enjoyed.
This dynamic is fueled by the acting, and this is one series where both languages are top-notch. The casting is dead-on and the match-up between the originals and the dubbed versions is impressive. And, in both cases, all the characters have an effective emotional range all the way from silly to serious. Of particular note is the quality of the writing in the dub--almost shockingly good. Plus, the dialogue, in addition to being well written, manages to be quite colorful--lots of accents, unusual voices, and odd expressions (particularly Jet's)--without seeming at all out of place. The Japanese has its own appeal and is equally well done (though a bit less colorful) so it's just plain enjoyable to listen to in either language--take your pick. It's hard to choose any particular standouts in a cast this good (even most of the minor characters are solid), but I'd single out Hayashibara Megumi's Fay in Japanese for her perpetually annoyed tone and Ed in the dub for some really bizarre (and very funny) speech patterns that fit the character to a T.
As for the visuals, they live up to the rest of the production. The character designs are distinctive and varied, the character art is very sharp, and the backgrounds are pretty, appropriately creative for a good sci-fi series, and usually quite detailed. The animation is also of very high quality--from the well done character animation to the fast and slickly produced action sequences (they are rare, but there are some great aerial dogfights), everything is well toward the top end of the OAV scale... and this is a TV series. Plus, there is lots of neat zero-gravity stuff (all executed marvelously, unless you get really picky). And, all that style I talked about before is carried though in the art--dark, moody scenes and John Woo-esque action set pieces (there's a classic church shootout, for example) abound.
I haven't mentioned the music yet--the series is called Cowboy Bebop, after all--because I was saving the best for last. The score is downright amazing, and I don't throw terms like that around lightly. The primary musical style is blues or jazz, but the range of musical genres represented is a thing to behold--almost every episode has a different musical motif. From heavy metal (for the space trucker episode), to the perfect musical accompaniment to the funky '70s-style opening sequence, to "The Real Folk Blues" (the jazz end theme for most of the series), to the very cool worldbeat end theme used for "Jupiter Jazz," this series at one point or another hits just about every musical genre you can think of. And, even more surprisingly, they all sound authentic and are written very well. As if that weren't impressive enough, the bulk of the music was written by a single person, Yoko Kanno (of Macross Plus fame among other things). Considering her previous work, it shouldn't be a surprise that she can cover such a wide range of styles, but all of it sounds so authentic, and so good, that my hat goes off to her. I can't think of anywhere else you can find this sort of musical variety, but I can say that the music alone could carry the series (not that it has to), and it gives Cowboy Bebop a flavor all its own.
That is pretty much everything I can think of to mention about this series; in one episode it may be dark, stylized, and serious, and in another light and filled with offbeat humor and antagonistic banter, but in every case it's done right. Back that up with a great cast and writing (in dub and Japanese, no less), fine visuals, cool retro-high-technology, and some of the most varied and well written music I've ever heard in a series, and you've got good anime. Cowboy Bebop isn't deep, but it has style and little bits of creativity everywhere to make up for what it lacks in substance, and from start to finish it's a marvelously well-built production. Worth at least a chance from almost any anime fan, and is almost guaranteed to be loved by fans of stylish action and sci-fi, as well those into not-too-serious space adventure and way-too-serious space adventure.
